The seaside village of Kalathas is located 10 km northeast of Chania, in a natural bay at the Akrotiri Cape.

The mesmerizing beach in front of the village (just 3 minutes walking distance from our hotel) is beautiful, with silky sand and shallow crystal clear waters. Opposite the beach, a small easily reachable green island invites you to explore it.

The beach of Kalathas is very well organized with umbrellas, parasols, water sports, lifeguards on duty, restaurants, mini markets etc.

Explore Agia Triada Monastery

The Monastery was built on the site of a 17th century church. The Monastery produces its own olive oil and wine and it has a small museum, worth visiting. For more information, contact our front desk staff.

Visit and hike to Gouverneto and Katholiko monastery

Katholiko monastery is considered to be the oldest Monastery in Crete and was founded during the 11th century. To reach it, you pass through Gouverneto Monastery (where you can make a stop), hike down 15 minutes to a rocky footpath towards the famous Bear cave and after 15 minutes walking you reach the ruins of Katholiko monastery. If you continue, you will cross the beautiful Avlaki gorge and end up at the beautiful and serene Katholiko beach.

It is ideal for a daily excursion, combining your visit with Agia Triada Monastery just a few kilometres away.

Samaria Gorge

Samaria National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in the White Mountains of Crete, draws tens of thousands of visitors per year to hike the spectacular gorge at its center.
